The GPU is the processor that runs AI models locally, and VRAM is the memory on that card — together they decide what you can run and how fast.
Why it matters to your business
For local AI, hardware is the price of admission: 12GB VRAM is the practical floor for image generation, video wants 24GB, and under-specced machines mean minutes per image instead of seconds.
The catch · what vendors don't say
The card you bought for design work may not have the VRAM for AI — graphics memory, not speed, is the binding constraint.
